33 km north of Meknes is one of the best preserved Roman archeological sites of Morocco, Volubilis. An ancient Roman capital that excelled from 45 to 285 AD. It came to the surface in 1915, with its ruins clearly indicating the structure of the Roman city. Today it is on the list of Unesco World Heritage Sites.
